Well, my friends, this is it, our eighth and final week of our Journey Home QAL!! What a journey it’s been. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you all and seeing the beautiful versions you’ve all created or are still creating! This week you’ll be taking your time to carefully sew the rows together that you made last week.
Much like last week, this may seem like a quick and easy task and that’s partly true, however it is an important one and not to be rushed through. The matching points and seams and pinning steps are critical in achieving nice, crispy points and corners. Not a must buy certainly a goal to strive for…. at least IMO!
So settle in, take your time to do it right. The results will be worth it. Start by aligning your rows, RST, starting with the center block point. Align that as closely as possible and pin in place. Continue aligning and pinning your seams and points along either side of that center point. Place pins liberally and then sew your seam, removing pins as you go.
When you complete all your rows, and your quilt top is together, take it to your pressing board and give it all one final press. For me, all seams are pressed open with the exception of the Diamond in Square block units. My quilt top lays nice and flat when I go to baste!
I can’t wait to see everyone’s finished quilt tops. What an accomplishment- yay for all of us! Please share your beautiful finishes this week to be eligible for the GRAND PRIZE of FREE edge to edge quilting by the ever so talented and kind Ingrid of Catnap Quilting, our very own Journey Home block within a block QAL friend!
I’ll announce a winner on Sunday, August 16! Thanks so much to all of you who participated in my little QAL! You were so kind to me and each other. You worked hard, stayed focused and hopefully, if you haven’t finished this week, you’ll keep us all posted when you do! And let’s all agree to share when we finish with the quilting and have a 100% completed quilt- pinky swear? I’m rooting for all of you and am just so honored that you wanted to make my Journey Home Quilt! Best wishes~~ Karen
